Within the area of electricity, considerations regarding security of supply, the significant increase in the share of renewable energy, finances and the need for a well-functioning electricity market make it necessary to establish new electricity transmission facilities and to rebuild and reinforce existing facilities.

Energinet.dk also endeavours to improve the visual impact of the transmission grid. This is done partly by undergrounding the entire 132 kV and 150 kV grids and partly by laying cables or otherwise improving the visual appearance of the 400 kV grid in six selected locations.
