The European Heat Pump Association (EHPA) has granted the 'Heat Pump City of the Year 2011' award to Energinet.dk for its efforts to make heat pumps in Denmark more intelligent. Four European heat pump projects were nominated.
The award was granted to Energinet.dk for its efforts to make the conversion from oil heating to heating by means of heat pumps a part of Smart Grid in Denmark. Specifically, the award was granted to the projects EcoGrid EU in the Baltic island of Bornholm and the demonstration project 'From wind power to heat pumps'.
Both projects outline specific methods for controlling new forms of potential demand response based on price signals in the electricity market by using, for instance, weather forecasts to plan heat pump operation.
EcoGrid EU is a collaboration between major European players in the Smart Grid field.
The project 'From wind power to heat pumps' is an entirely Danish demonstration project testing new control strategies in 300-400 Danish households fitted with heat pumps. Two ForskEl-financed projects headed by Nordjysk Elhandel and the Danish Technological Institute, respectively, participate in the project.
